A single male or female aged between 17 - 27 years, inclusive with no dependants, normally with basic English (the standard varies with each person) and a desire to study a foreign language and experience a different culture. An au pair can stay up to two years. Usually au pairs have no previous experience in childcare but have had experiences in babysitting/summer camps.
the meaning of au aupair

Although European Economic Area nationals are not included in the au pair scheme, they are free to come to the UK to take au pair placements.
